As it seems to be part of our new culture, here's an introduction: My name is Mike Wier, and I play BBb Tuba in the Ohio Valley British Brass Band. I'm an amateur, as many years ago my mother convinced me that while musicians have more fun, engineers work more steadily. True, but sad.... The band is just three years old, but having a great time, and getting better. We don't compete (yet?), but do put on a fair number of concerts. We are based in Dayton, Ohio, USA, and rehearse weekly at Wright State University. Most of the members are local high school or college music instructors, with college students and guys like me filling out the group. Since we don't have the restrictions on membership like competing bands, we have 50 members, almost exactly double a "standard" band. The brass band list promises to be a lot of fun, once we get over the inevitable start up problems. I have already experienced the comraderie of the brass band community. I just returned from a trip to Scotland and England. While I was there, I had the opportunity to sit in on a rehearsal of the Flookbrugh Band in Cumbria. They guys welcomed me warmly, and I learned more about banding in two hours than I had in the past two years. Thanks!! 'nuf for now... Mike
