In reply to Steve Piercey's message below:- At Ipswich Co-Op band we constantly have the dilemma that we have test pieces that we are preparing to play at contests but would like to play out at concerts so we get more of a feel for a performance. Most test pieces are not that easy on the ear (there are exceptions eg middle movement of George Lloyd's Royal Parks) - but we have to get the practice so we just play them with a proviso that we are working towards a contest and want to play the piece. More challenging concerts pieces we have purchased recently include:- I Got Rhythm (Gershwin) Lil Darlin Let's Face the Music and Dance Glasnost to name but four - I haven't got the details with me so I won't risk naming the wrong arranger/ publisher but if you more details e-mail me direct. In the first 3 rhythm accuracy is everything. Happy banding everybody, Paul Cannard pcannard@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx In our last concert we played such items as Glen Miller Special, Superman, Eb Horn Solo - Somewhere Over The Rainbow, British Grenadiers, etc. However, we have rehearsed such items as "Resurgam" that could probably not be performed in the type of concerts we play. What do other bands do to perform technically challenging pieces, that aren't quite as "audience listenable"? Steve Piercey Saugus, Mass.
