Interesting question. There's plenty of precedent for composers reworking
their material for different instrumentations. Bach is an early example.
More recently, and more relevant to brass bands, Ireland transcribed Comedy
Overture for orchestra (as London Overture), Bantock transcribed The Frogs
from orchestra to brass band, but Prometheus Unbound went the other way.

My personal favorites are Frank Wright's transcriptions of the Berlioz
overtures. I think every one of these is more powerful in its band
arrangement than in the orginal orchestral arrangement. I think Berlioz
would have loved them. Les Francs Juges is particularly beautiful. As a
confirmed flugel fanatic, I could listen to that extended haunting duet for
flugel and horn for hours - and often do.
