It *should* be spelled "ripiano", but it almost always now seems to be with an
'e' in brass bands. Your point about the correct meaning shows one of the many
quirks of banding, which like most things doesn't stand up to too much
close examination. When it comes to cornet parts why have 4-5 solo players,
but only one repiano player? Strikly speaking it should be the other way around.
