About 10 years ago or so I watched a movie on my local PBS (Non-Commercial)
station late one night. I am not sure of the title, but it was definatly
British. The story was about a very, very small  brass band that played
quite badly, freely improvising on the music and never won a local
competition. When a London pop composer/conductor moved to the village the
town council convinced him to take over the band. The band then went on
limited strike for the displaced former leader and only played exactly as
written. This was good enough to go to the competition .... and so the
story goes.
I remember it as quite funny, but of course I didn't record it.
If anyone on the list knows of this film, the exact title, or if it is
available on VHS(US standard if I'm lucky, but I can get it converted) or
laserdisc (pref), please let me know by email.
