Hello David,
	There are plenty of books on band orchestration. A good primer
was written in the '30s by Denis Wright, I can't remember what it's called
though and it is now a little out of date. A good more recent book is
colour in brass bands (or something like that) by Ray Steadman Allen.
I can dig out it's ISBN number if you want.
