In the Bandsman it said that is was because of "lack of application from
certain members of the band, plus a band meeting at which he was not present,
forced the resignation." He resigned as from 19th of September. There is also a
statement of Philip McCann in this article: "I was not happy with the attitude
and commitment of some members of the band, and have not been for some time. I
heard unofficially that some members had decided it was time for a change and
wanted another conductor for the National Final, so I immediately tendered my
resignation. Having completed the difficult task of qualifying from the
Yorkshire region, I believed I could continue until after the National Final,
but obviously this has not happened, so I decided for the good of all concerned
that it was time for a change, and it would appear that someone else will be
'given' the icing on the cake. I wish them well; it was going to be an exciting
three weeks for me musically to be working on the piece Songs for BL by Elgar
Howarth. It would be an understatement to say that there have been some
wonderful moments over the past ten year, but there comes a time when a door
opens and lets in the future."
In Brassband World was also an article about his leaving, and by the time this
magazine came out, the associate conductor, Douglas Blackledge, also resigned!
So you could say they might have a problem with the finals being next week!
They didn't seem to have find anyone (so far) to take them there!

Hope this answers your question.

Regards,

Ineke van Kapel, repiano with Brassband Schoonhoven, the Netherlands.
