Courtois has gone into business with a German company (or bought it, I'm not sure), I think it was Meijer, and they joined their knowledge about basses and developed a brandnew one! It's funny that you mentioned that Courtois listens to their customers and wants to adjust if necessary: I am in very good contact with Courtois' English dealer, Fred Rhodes Manchester, and they did quite a lot of development on cornet, sop, flugel, trombone and tenor horn. So that has helped a lot in gaining the "British" sound. In the Manchester area (where, as you probably know, most of the British topbands are located) Courtois is taking a high flight at the moment. Fred Rhodes' salesman, Jonathon Webster (solo-bar. of Britannia Building), told me he can't get enough instruments from France at the moment, waitinglists of two or more months exist. So don't say it's coincidence that you defeated Soli, you know now that your instruments might have helped you a bit! By the way, our band (Brassband Schoonhoven) has had some "Courtois" soloists for workshops and a concert on the 16th of September, and all that were present at (especially the Euph/Bar.) workshops fell madly in love with the Courtois! I must say, never heard a better euphonium(player) than the Courtois (played by Glyn Williams, solo-euph of Britannia). It was so in tune, so flexible, realy amazing! Other soloists were Mark Wilkinson (principal of Britannia) and Nigel Fielding (sop. of Grimethorpe). Jonathon Webster just came along to help out with the Baritone workshop and because he was organiser on behalve of Fred Rhodes Manchester. Ineke van Kapel (rep. with Brassband Schoonhoven, NL) Toedelodokie! eric.de.cloe@xxxxxxxxxx ---
