I play euphonium in the Chester Brass Band (Nova Scotia, Canada). We came third in our level at the North American Brass Band Competition last April. My question is this: the regulations state that you can only have (guess, here) about 40 players in the band. The winning team had about 80, yet only 35-40 played at any one given time: i.e. the band would play a number, then about 70% of them would leave and some "fresh lips" would come on the stage...given the time resraints, I suppose they should have won a medal just for that...:) My question is, although legal according to the regulations, is it really fair????
