SA Cornet Solos

<I need some advice from Salvationists who know the cornet solo literature
<available from SP&S. I'm looking for the solos "Clear Skies", "Life's
<Pageant" and others similar to those, but I have *no* idea what to
<order. I remember years ago, a teacher of mine (also a Salvationist) had
<those two solos in a book of solos - AND a book of piano accompaniments.
<Can someone tell me what to order? I'd like more than just one book, can
<someone give me a list of comparable solos and what to order? (For cornet
<and piano).
<Thanks for your help (and your patience!).

I can help you with this one! I have Clear Skies somewhere, but not the piano
part.
You should be able to order the music from SA Central Territory Headquarters in
Des Plaines, Illinois. Contact Bill Himes at 708-294-2133. You may know his
name
from brass band literature. He's head of music for the SA Central Territory.
Tell him
Laura Shea Smith sent you. Peggy Payton Thomas also works there, & she would
be able to tell you which collections the solos are in, if Bill doesn't know.
I studied
with her in high school, & she's one of my favorite cornet players. She's been
principal with the Chicago Staff Band for a long time. I have a recording of
Phil
Smith doing Clear Skies back in I think 1975 that is nothing short of amazing.
You
might also check out the solo "A Happy Day", another favorite of mine. Let me
know if you have any problems.
