True. I was just (almost) making the point that the running costs of
such a band are very high. Particularly when you employ one of the most
expensive conductors involved in Brass Bands, as rumour has it.

I was just speaking from my personal experience of Jim. If he had made
the decision that he didn't want the band to go, then 25 players would
have a job persuading him otherwise. (That's if they felt brave enough
to say anything to him!)

I'm sure you are right. IMHO purely amateur players seem to be far more
dedicated than the ones who are paid to play. It gets to the stage where
some people won't even get their instrument out of it's box until they
have negotiated a fee.
