This list is a great way to meet other band enthousiastics all over the world. The band world is very small, so maybe you know a man who also lives in Denmark who is a very good friend of my in-laws. His name is Oskar Sundvall and lives in the surroundings of Kopenhagen. He played principal cornet in Concord Brass Band. About 30 years ago he had lived in Rotterdam (the city where I live in the Netherlands) for a year and a still lasting friendship started then. I met him several times (he regularly visits us). He is a very enthousiastic musician and a clever and friendly man too. Maybe you know him because he is also in his fifties.... dc> Windband News" on the web. The main journals British dc> Bandsman, Brass Band World, Winds, Clarino - any more? - dc> have to take this media seriusly. I think it will not become a complete substitute of the magazines, but I am sure this way of communication will become very important. They should take this medium very serious, but I am afraid they do not. Besides, Brass Band World claims to have an international view on the brassband scene. Unfortunately almost 99% in this magazine is about BRITISH Banding (and lots of political affairs)! However the articles in Brassband World are well-written, but I prefer British Bandsman. Are there other people who have comments on the brassband magazines? dc> I have made the suggestion to EBBA to go on Internet. This dc> could be a very fast way to inform about everything. Of dc> course its still in the birth but when you look at the dc> speed the last year it would not take long. It should be great! dc> In daytime, and often also early morning and late night, I dc> work at the danish radio (HTTP://www.dr.dk) Its in the dc> tecnical department which have just been reduced to the dc> half. I also work for a radio station I produce and present a weekly 1 hour lasting programme about wind music (wind band, fanfare band and brassband). Unfortunately it does not pay well..... dc> the processor compressing the signal in daytime (before dc> 19.00 UTC)had been maintained and replaced with an other. dc> Unfortunally they have forgotten to switch on the funtion dc> which enabels the automatic to do so. Its OK now. Ihave dc> checked it, so you can again enjoy the ppp. I would I could listen to this programme, in the past BBC 2 and 3 were available on the cable, but the cable-provider decided to cut these stations. (@#()$*&))!!! I miss (especially) the broadcastings with recordings of live events (Nationals, British Open, Festival of Brass). I wish that there was somebody out there who is prepared to make cassette-tapes of these programs for me (for which I would be very gratefull). P.s. I play solo-euphonium with Brassband Schoonhoven and 2nd euphonium with a recently founded brass brassband of which most players are professionals. At the moment the band reheares the test-pieces: Stonehenge - Jan van der Roost (a GREAT piece) British bands and contest organisers wake up ---> this piece from the Belgium composer is really great and difficult to play too!! Diversions on a Bass Theme - George Lloyd (also great but less than Stonehenge) Forest of Dean - Derek Bourgeois TOEDELODOKIE!
