The Spring Contest of the Southern Counties Amateur Band Association took
place in Brighton yesterday.  There was a good entry of bands to five
section graded contests (and a good day was had by one and all.  The format
of the contest was own choice of March and Test Piece from approved
S.C.A.B.B.A. list and the adjucators with Roger Webster (3rd & 1st Sections)
and Alan Morrison (Youth, 2nd & Championship Sections) respectively.  The
results were as follows:

YOUTH SECTION

1st		     Solent Concert Youth	   182 Points
2nd		    Canterbury Youth		179 Points
March Prize:       Solent Concert Youth


3rd SECTION

1st		     Battle Town			  92 points
2nd		    Mid-Sussex Brass		91 points
3rd		     Sussex Brass (Hastings)      90 points
March Prize:	Battle Town
Best
Instrumentalist:   Cobham (solo horn)



2nd SECTION

1st		     Godalming		       182 points
2nd		     Waltham Forest Co-Op    181 points
3rd		     Hangleton			180 points
March Prize:	Godalming
Best Instrumentalist: Waltham Forest Co-Op (Jayne Murrill, Solo Trombone)
Conductors Prize:     Waltham Forest Co-Op (Sue Murrill)


1st SECTION

1st		     Solent Concert		      93 Points
2nd		     Runnymede Brass		92 Points
(Spectrum)
3rd		     G.E.C. Marconi Avionics	 90 Points
March Prize:       Runnymede Brass
Best Bass Section:  Solent Concert
Conductors Prize: G.E.C. Marconi Avionics


CHAMPIONSHIP SECTION

1st		     Aveley & Newham		 188 points    ??????
2nd		     Sagvaag Musikklag	       185 points

3rd		     Alder Valley Brass		 184 points
(Chromoscope)

Best Instrumentalist:  Aveley & Newham (Solo Cornet)

Next S.C.A.B.B.A. event is the Entertainment Contest at Hawth Theatre
(Crawley) on Sunday 9th May (2 sections), followed by the Autumn Contest at
Leas Cliff Hall (Folkestone) on Saturday & Sunday 12th/13th October (Evening
Concert on Saturday 12th by Williams Fairey Engineering Band).
