Here's two more things to throw into the pot -

"1922 saw the end of the "Square formation" of bands when performing at
Crystal Palace and the adoption of the "Concert formation". Most bands sat in
the chairs provided but some still stood "As we have always done and always
will.  Those who sit are cissies and wallflowers".

Anyone else with anything to add?

On the gender in bands thread - Is Enfield Citadel the last all male corps
Salvation Army band in the U.K.? ..... In the world?
