Notes;

The Triangle Brass Band was selected as the NABBA representative to the
Great American Brass Band Festival, in a taped-entry contest.

The Varsity All Star Brass Band is protesting their 6 pt. penalty for not
being on stage long enough. The required time is (I believe) 26? 23? mins,
and the Varsity All Stars were clocked at 21+, which is again, under protest.

Winners in the Open, Challenge, Honors, and Championship sections
recieve(d) a $250.00 cash award, winners of the Youth Section recieve
$100.00, and the GABBF Tape Contest winners recieve $2500.00.

The biggest "success story" of NABBA '96 has been the All Star Brass Band
organization out of Columbus, Ohio. The All Stars are the only true
"Youth" brass band organizations in the U.S. Although there are
several collegiate bands, the All Star organization is the only one
which bases its membership solely on middle and high school students
only. It was commented by many directors and even some adjuticators that
the All Stars are a real force to be contended with, placing 1st in one
division (Junior Varsity All Stars, Youth Section), 2nd in another
(Varsity All Stars, Challenge Section) and 3rd in another (All Star Brass
and Percussion, Honors Section). Their musicality and performances were
(as commented by one of the adjuticators, not the staff) was on par and
even superior to that of the British National Youth Bands. Director
Eric Aho (Solo Euphonium, Brass Band of Columbus), Asst. Marty Jenkins
(percussionst, Brass Band of Columbus,) Amy Aho (Trombone, Central Ohio
Brass Band) and the other assistants who put in their time and effort, as
well as the staffs of all the other bands, deserve to be applauded.

Congratulations to all of those, espically the Junior Varsity All Stars,
Woods Mfg., Cincinatti Brass Band, The Dominion Brass band, and the Brass
Band of Illinois, for their performances, and I hope to see you all there
on Red Wing, Minnesota at NABBA XV, 1997.
