 I for one wouldn't have the time to browse through a Brass Band news group 
 AND read the e-mail from the mailing list.  

 I find the mailing list a much more convenient system and I must 
 congratulate Nigel on it's success and also thank him for all the hard work 
 he must put into maintaining the list.

 As long as Nigel is prepared to maintain this list and deliver the news to 
 our desk-tops in the form of e-mail, then I think a News group would only
 serve to weaken the flow of information between brass-band persons and would 
 fragment us into those that use the mailing list and those that use the 
 news group.  In the end, the information would probably end up being 
 duplicated on both systems.

 The mailing list is a resounding success and the best way forward is to tell 
 your friends about it and print out the messages so that those without e-mail 
 facilities don't get left out.  We usually have a drink at the bar after 
 band rehersals and I pass around the latest batch of messages which 
 everyone, even non-players (supporters) enjoys reading.

 Just my personal opinion!
