From: Robert Lynch, E flat Bass, Evening Post Onslow Band, Wellington, NZ. Killian & fellow subscribers, With reference to recent postings on fundraising and world records. The two ideas were combined by a youth band in Pershore, Worcestershire, England, a few years ago. Their conductor, Gordon Hartley-Bennett, decided to hold a Sponsored Note. The band was split into small groups and each group played a tuning note when instructed to do so by Gordon. The result was one absolutely continuous B flat that carried on for an hour. Lots of money was raised, the record for NON-STOP playing was probably set, and hundreds of annoyed shoppers & shopkeepers. Gordon is also the driving force behind "Pershore Midsummer Brass": can anyone tell me if it's on this year, or when it is? I would LOVE to be on the Internet Band as a second Kiwi representative, but as the Dunedin correspondent said, finance is difficult. -- unsubscribe or receive the list in digest form, mail a message of 'help' to listserv@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
