Further to my recent posting on auction of instruments in london, I though a
follow up might be of interest.
I couldn't actually go to the auction itself but that didn't matter - you are
able to phone in and give a "commission" bid for any items you are intersted in.
I put pids in for a set of 4 imperial cornets for our youth band, a set of
premier tubular bells and a set of fanfare trumpets (16 of them!) Never having
done this sort of thing before, we put in quite low bids to see what happened.
The Corents went for L330, above my bid of L100! The tubular bells went for
L120! (we bid L100). The fanfare trumpets fetched L175 against my bid of L150.
So we didn't actually get anywhere! However, the lesson for next time is, turn
up on the day and there are bargains to be had!
