A couple I've found interesting are:

a).   "On Brass" by Harry Mortimer and Alan Lynton (1981 Alphabooks).  It's
an autobiography of Mr. Mortimer and follows the British brass movement in
particular from early this century.

b).  "Brass Bands in the 20th Century" edited by Violet and Geoffrey Brand
(1979 Egon Publishers).  It is more of a collection of essays on various
brass band topics contributed by several band luminaries (like Eric Ball and
Edward Gregson).
