Open test piece

Hello all,
Just a quick note to tell all those that didn't know that the test piece
for the 144th British Open Championship, held in the brand new Bridgewater Hall
in Manchester on Saturday 7th September was The Severn Suite by Edward Elgar.
Originally written in 1930 (?) for the National Championship of that year, it
was scored (I think) by Henry Geehle, and the confusion of transcribing Elgar's
concert pitch music to brass band Bb treble clef, resulted in a work in Bb (band
C). For this contest, Bram Gay (who also served as an adjudicator on the day),
rescored the piece in Elgar's intended key of C major (band D), and added a bit
more percussion.

(apologies for any inaccuracies...please put me right if you can see any!)

Best wishes,
--
