On the subject of notation software, I have found Finale version 3.5 to be an excellent package. I have been using it for the last two years (roughly). Most of the work I do is for Salvation Army (Festival Series) band scoring, and so I have developed templates for this purpose. The advantage is that I have already programmed in all of the transpositions for the various instruments so that everything is more quickly and easily entered. In my opinion and experience (and based on the comments of users of other packages like Encore), I must say that Finale is, by far, the best package around. With all its power and flexibility, it does take some doing to learn its 'ins and outs'. It is also the only one which to my knowledge, offers an educational discount to students and/or teachers. This is a considerable advantage over Encore at least. If any Finale users out there on the list would be interested in a copy of my template (which, of course, you could modify to suit your own purposes) for the SA-Festival band score, just e-mail me and I'll send it to you as an e-mail attachment. -- unsubscribe or receive the list in digest form, mail a message of 'help' to listserv@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
