As high school students begin their college search, I wanted to remind those students (and their teachers) who are members of this list to search for all possible scholarship opportunities in all their interest areas, whether it's what you plan on majoring in or not. For instance, the George Washington University auditions for a program called Presidential Arts Scholarships in Music, which are $7,500 in tuition remission renewable for four years. The only requirements for scholarship winners are full-time student status and registration for 3 credits of applied music (which translates to an hour lesson wach week and a relevant large ensemble--band, orchestra, chorus). As a department secretary, I hate to think of the number of students who have expressed interest *after* they have arrived on campus, who missed out simply because they did not investigate the possibility while they were applying. I encourage everyone to contact directly the music departments at their prospective colleges and unviersities. (If you are interested in the GW program, please e-mail me privately.) --Jan Schuller ==== -- unsubscribe or receive the list in digest form, mail a message of 'help' to listserv@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
