Dear All, At the Midlands Brass Band Championships last Sunday, held at Leamington Spa, you may be interested to know that Abraham Darby School band beat 3 other adult bands in the 4th division. This is quite some achievement considering that it is the first time in 13 years that the school has entered a contest. We were headed by our new musical director, also director of Sovereign (who won the championship division - well done!) Wayne Ruston. Two members of the band play in another local band called Jackfield Elcock Reisen Brass Band, who are in the first division. As their loyalty was with the school, they decided to play in the contest with Abraham Darby. Therefore, in order to "get back" at our Head Of Music, Simon Platford, for an incident that happened not so many moons ago, certain people have been spreading romours within the brass band fraternity that Simon threaghtened and bent their arms to play with the school band. I assure everyone that this is blatently untrue and that Myself, and Amy played with the school because we wanted to. We find the whole incident pathetic. Incidentally, you may be interested to know that some people in Jackfield have been saying that they came 6th out of 9, in the first division. They didn't they came 6 out of 7th. If Jackfield got themselves sorted out, and sacked the few select members who are causing all the problems, they would be a much better band, who's time isn't spent on fruitless arguments.
