Hi all, Everybody seems to be having a go about this subject so I thought that I would have a quick go. To me vibrato is something that has times when it should be used and times when it shouldn't. I think that players should be able to turn it on and off as the music requires, I know a lot of players that cannot do this. I suspect that Phil McCann probably can't do this, I wouldn't swear by this though. On the subject of the aformentioned I agree that he has an excellent technique and recordings such as the second movement of Contest Music display what he is really capable of doing, however from the number of stories that I've heard about him such as sitting with a score when conductors we're taking Dyke through there paces, or warming up backstage during another bands performance at a concert, I don't think he is the sort of player I would want in my band. I have never actually met him, so I must stress that all I have said comes from people I talk to, but I don't think that so many people could have got the wrong impression. Cheers Phil PS Hope this doesn't offend anyone. -- unsubscribe or receive the list in digest form, mail a message of 'help' to listserv@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
