Well, in a book I have written by an orchestral trumpeter a few years ago now,
he recommends that to create a good even steady yet variable vibrato, you
should lightly 'wobble' the instrument since lips, throat, diaphragm etc are
all tied up doing other things.   Although when I use vibrato, i just use my
lips to create it since it seems that moving the instrument is more likely to
cost endurance, plus it looks a little silly...
