Brass Band Symposium WHERE NOW THE BRASS BAND ? Into Europe and the Next Millennium a symposium EDINBURGH 11-13 APRIL 1997 Speakers: TREVOR HERBERT NIGEL BODDICE JOHN WALLACE ARNOLD MYERS KEVIN LAMB ROY NEWSOME FREDERICK FRAYLING-KELLY This symposium is being organised by Napier University, Edinburgh. It will start in the evening of Friday 11 April and run to Sunday 13 April 1997. The presentations will be illustrated by live performances and recordings, with discussion periods afterwards. The symposium topics will include: Origins and history of brass bands Development to the present day Possibilities for the future There will be concerts by: "The Cyfarthfa Victorian Brass Band" "Star Soloists" and Scottish Brass Band" "The Experimental Brass Band" The weekend is being promoted by the Music Department of Napier University and William Phillips Winds, with the support of the Scottish Brass Band Association and the Brass Band Federation. Evening meal on Friday and Saturday, and lunch on Saturday and Sunday, will be provided. Coffee will be available at each of the breaks. Accommodation may be available in University Flats at an extra fee of 30.00 pounds sterling for the weekend.
