Re: Country Flavors

As I continue to review the top 10 lists, I realize that often, the bands are
so unique in thier ways of doing things. Perhaps we could move on to
consider how the Scottish Bands differ from the Norwegian Bands, differ from
the American Bands and oh yes those bands from Down Under including New
Zealand. In years past I always considered the Scottish Bands to be so much
more exciting but at times it cost a bit of accuracy. The Scandinavians in
my book are forcing the brass band into the public arena with great crowd
pleasing numbers from thier favorite movies and doing a great job of it. The
English Bands of course set the highest technical standard and display a wide
array of variation from Seller's ensemble to Desford's big sound. Down under
has a lot of fun. I do get a kick out of those who compare them with the
English bands however. They have never compared in my book to the English
bands and frankly, they seem like a good mark for the Americans to overcome
as early as N.A.B.B.A. 97! Just opinions....Lord knows we've had enough of
them recently.
