No...come on, that would be horrendous, you know thats not what i meant....Having people think that that is the image of the brass band wouls be shocking, although, a lot of people think it is....you know, 76 Trombone and all that stuff. > I think that the scope of the brass band repertoire has > come on leaps and bounds over the last decade and at this point we > surely must ask ourselves who do we play for? I agree, and i'm not knocking the brass band repertoire. I think test-pieces are the best form of brass band music. Revelation, Paganini Variations, Essence of Time, all that sort of stuff, I love it and *THAT* is what the brass band should stick to. I don't like most of the jazz transcriptions (although L'il Darlin', I do like...especially the cornet solo, which I had the chance to play with my school band a few years back....So much fun), but I wouldn't want to hear a big band playing any brass band pieces...I believe that there is a repertoire that each musical group should stick to. If you want to listen to Mahler, go hear and orchestra. If you want to listen to Ellington, go hear a big band. If you want to hear brass band pieces and all that goes with it, go hear a brass band or go to a concert. I'm not knocking the movement, or all of the repertoire. I just feel that the brass band is a serious musical force, and playing transcriptions just doesn't work.
