Angela Tregaskes asks: "Has anyone found any major errors in this piece?" YES!!! The Harrogate Band have made more than 200 amendments to the score and parts of Tintagel in order to correct missing bars, wrong notes and inaccurate dynamic and articulation marks, and we still find three or four at each rehearsal. There are so many inconsistencies, most of them admittedly pretty minor but highly infuriating all the same. I took the piece with my previous band (Runnymede Brass) four or five years ago now, so I knew that it was a problematic work and took the score and parts home before the first rehearsal. I don't have the score here with me but if my memory serves me right the missing bars are in the percussion part and there are wrong notes for Eb bass, but all the parts have details missing or mixed up. There should be a full score, and with this your MD should be able to put things right. Tintagel had a rather inauspicious start to its life: it wasn't published for four years after its first performance, then Booseys published it before selling it to R. Smith Ltd. Too many cooks???
