For what it's worth, here's my say about brass bands playing
transcriptions.  I agree that a  transcription of an orchestral piece
played by a brass band doesn't sound like  it does played by the I
orchestra, but, I ask: SO WHAT?!			     There have
been many brilliant transcriptions of classical works, which don't need or
attempt to sound like the original. What about "Pictures at an Exhibition",
for example!
Many great composers frequently rescored their own works for alternative
instrumentation, too, depending on available players and financial
incentive.

Here's a suggestion for a transcription which I think would work
brilliantly for brass band:

Janacek's Sinfonietta, first movement
Anyone out there who would like to have a go!?
