Compensation is done to "compensate" for a given problem. Although we have long lived under the monopoly of Besson/Boosey and grown use to compensating instruments, the reality is that new companies are making compensation a thing of the past with better design and less tubing used for compensation. After playing Bessons for 34 years, I am overwhelmed with the accuracy and timber of my new Yamaha Tenor Horn (602S). Combine that with the business tactics of Boosey on this side of the Atlantic and I say "goodbye for ever Besson."
