Joel, Welcome to the Brass Band mailing List ! I am fairly new to it myself, but it is already proving to be worth the effort. I have a suggestion for raising the profile of the Band - how about a guest soloist ? Preferably a baritone player - well actually - ME ! In case you don't know anything about me have a quick look at my home page on : http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/StevenBooth but basically I am always looking for opportunities to promote the baritone as a soloist. I have a reasonably decent pedigree (as you can read on my home page) and do quite a few solo jobs during the year - at home and abroad. I am also currently working with Yamaha to develope a new baritone. One of the most important aspects I suspect from a band's point of view is, I do NOT charge massive soloist rates (as some of the other soloists tend to ) as I tend to do the solos for the enjoyment and the opportunity to meet other brass players and bands. (Having said that I would of course need to cover costs (travelling / accomodation etc)). Maybe we could work something out whereby we could both benefit. The band would gain extra publicity and higher profile due to having a "name" soloist and, if required, I could even come down for the weekend of the concert and do some conducting / rehearsing with the band ( if the band thinks it would benefit). Anyway this is just an idea, please feel free to ask around about me if you don't know who the hell I am ! (I won't be offended) and I hope everything goes well with the band. Being on the internet will certainly help you to raise the Band's profile anyway.
