Opinion differs as to its artistic merits (see the Forsythe 
orchestration) and the legato is hard.

Thanks :-)  Almost as fun as obliterating the orchestra on Bass... you 
just sail over the top on alto, with the tenor supporting an octave lower.

I hadn't thought of this.  Still, it tends to shake them up a little.  Do 
you know Mendlesohn's Ruy Blas overture?  The alto solo was cued in the 
second trumpet part.  He survived for two notes.....

I must confess, I shifted alto clef down a note and read as Eb treble 
when I used an alto.
