Thats not the way most people I spoke to felt. I can't substantiate any
of the comments as I heard none of the performances except our own, but
most people I spoke to (and that includes Fairies players) had BNFL as
clear winners and Fairies third. The audience reaction was obvious on
this point. BNFL apparently were faultless, whilst Fairies timp player
got out and the sop had a nightmare. We ourselves were a bit disappointed
with our performance, a few splits from principal players and a rough
entry 3rd bar of 2nd movement, but I believe most people had us first
until BNFL came on.
If this isnt true, please let me know, as I, like us all, am very
interested in what people think of our performances.
Sorry if this upsets anybody (I doubt it will) but I am just telling it
like like I have been told it is.
The list is not very good at expressing opinions on ourselves and others
as bands. Lets get a bit more debate going on instead of just passing
comments suffixed IMHO.
Phil Green.

----------------------------------------------
In the Championship section Roy Roe criticised some of the bands for
some poor playing in the third movement of Lowry Sketchbook. Just about
everyone in the hall picked the top three bands; Faireys were clear
winners because of the outstanding performance of the second, slow
movement. BNFL were unlucky not to qualify for the finals with a very
clean & entertaining performance, but it was always going to be a close
call between them and Britannia.
All in all an excellent days contesting. My only complaint is that the
timing of the sections meant that it was very difficult to get to hear a
good selection from each section.
