No, it's never stupid to check the pronunciation of British place 
names. So many of them don't follow even the extremely relaxed 
'rules' of normal English.

The 'i' is like the one in 'brickhouse', as you say.  The accent is 
on the first syllable, and the 'h' is hardly sounded, if at all.

Similarly, in 'Rastrick' the accent is on the first syllable.

Another example worth noting is Blackley (3rd Section Blackpool Results),
in which the 'a' is pronounced as in 'cake', not as in 'black'.  Blackley 
is an area of northern Manchester. Watch the election results and hear 
even the BBC get it wrong :)
