Ummm.... As a mere southerner (but not as far south as Jack Alexander :-)), I'd
be tempted to say "Briggouse" - a Dutchman might spell this "Briguis", but the
"g" is hard, and the "r" is at the front of the mouth.
Perhaps someone from that area could comment?
I remember years ago being told (incorrectly) that Cirencester was to be
pronounced "Sissister"! Just goes to show....
