[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] Australian Nationals-Bengt Eklund
Hello All,
Bengt Eklund, adjudicator at the Australian Nationals, took
Waratah-Mayfield Band in a Master Class last night. I think the Band
and Mr Eklund enjoyed the evening very much.
There were a few interesting moments where the language barrier,
Bengt Eklund is Swedish, was a little in evidence, but from my point
of view the highlight of the rehearsal was the entire Band singing
their own part in a few Hymns. Yes we were all aware of 'If you
can't sing it, so won't play it' but to actually have the entire
Band singing, and very close to perfect tunning (OK, maybe a little
out), before playing. Was certainly a something different for us. I
think that David Wilks, newly crowned Australian Soprano Champion
did have a few problems with singing his parts.
We played a few Orchestral transcription including Elsa's
Procession to the Cathedral. It was impossible not to become infected
by this man's enthusiasm for music, we did a lot of work on sound,
balance and intonation.
So, we may not 100% agree with his placing of our Band in Test :) but
I think all the Band did enjoyed having Bengt Eklund conduct us last
evening.
All the best
