To: brass-band@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx cc: From: Robert C Knight @ SB_PHARM_RD Date: 01-Sep-97 10:12:04 AM Subject: Sonny Wilson Categories: Many brass players will have known Mr E C P ("Sonny") Wilson, President and Bandmaster of the Blewbury Brass Band, who died last weekend, aged 91. In 1919 Sonny joined the band to which he was to devote much of his life, and re-established it after the Second World War. It was Sonny who, in the late 1950s, provided the band with a permanent home by arranging for a wooden building that had once been a house to be erected on the recreation ground at Blewbury, and when, 40 years later, The Band Hut was replaced with a brick building, the band officially named the replacement The Sonny Wilson Rehearsal Hall. We are just a small village band, but we hope to continue Sonny$B!G!)(B work of teaching, entertaining, and - above all - sharing with others the joy of brass playing. Sonny$B!G!)(B funeral will be largely a family event, but the village band will be there to play some hymns and perhaps a few of Sonny$B!G!)(B favourite pieces. Any friends and local players who would like to join us are welcome: please contact me directly at robert_c_knight@xxxxxxxxxx or by phone on 01438 782369.
