I am also interested in this subject since in my (virtual) spare time I am contemplating writing a history of the Egham Band, which was formed in 1895 or thereabouts. We are very fortunate in having a large picture library, and a number of older ex-members who could supply oral histories. I'm interested in placing the band into the social context of the community too, weaving in local events etc. Has anyone else ever done such a thing? Got any hints and tips - like, don't ;-) John Goodwin -iii-< Cornet, flugel, Soprano, whatever the bandmaster decides this week Egham Band <SMUG> First section winners at Folkestone '97 <\SMUG> ---------- From: Penny Morgan To: brass-band@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: The demographic history of Brass Bands Date: 15 October 1997 22:01 Hi John A long standing member of the band I play for compiled a history of our band, which was published into a book. Len Parsons played in the Wellington Silver Band from the 1930's until 1996. His book gives notes and photographs from 1860 to1986. I could probably locate a spare copy if you were interested.
