Well I don't know about any of the British bands, but Kevin Metcalf of
the Canadian Staff Band not only held the A for the full length with a
big crescendo, but he also played the run up to the top C at piano as
written, not at forte as on the 
Grimethorpe recording.  Now that last comment should spark some
controversy.
