Re: concert at nationals -Reply

Interesting observations, Edy. Since there have been a few comments
lately about various bands' sounds, I can't resist throwing in my $0.02
worth.

I must agree with your assessment of the current Dyke. There is much to
commend, but I still prefer their 1985 Peter Parkes sound. Seems to me
there was a greater range of music that they made sound really musical.
(I'm thinking particularly of Contest Music and Cloudcatcher Fells as I
write this). (Another caveat: I'm on the left side of the big pond, so
every opinion I have comes from CDs). On the other hand, the sheer power
and quality of Dyke's current sound is thrilling to the point of
knocking your socks off - as in Moorside Suite and Planets - but somehow
the quieter and slower stuff doesn't have the soul it had under Parkes.

And someone recently mentioned
BBS/Fodens/whatever-they're-called-this-week changing their sound. I'd
say shame on that. To my ears, BBS under Snell had a really beautiful
sound: controlled, musical, and wide dynamic range.
