Janet,
I have heard the same rumor, probably from a similar source. I heard
that about 8 of the top bands were having a meeting to try to get it
cancelled, don't know exactly which bands they were.

     place regarding the British Open in January 1998.  I have heard 
     that there is a strong chance that it will be cancelled not held 
     at all.
