Yes, I know this because I was there for 5 years and remember having these
strange instruments in our band.

D.Y.R.M.S. stands for "Duke of Yorks Royal Military School". I don't know what
the 6 stands for though.

This school is in Dover, England. I served my school days there from 1951-1956
if this is any help with the date you are looking for.
