You may have noticed that I used some strange language in my last message regarding brass band test-pieces. Words such as 'man-style' and 'tazz' form the basis of a language developed by Alastair and I (together with various other random people) on a tour of Germany and Holland earlier this year. So that you can understand what I'm saying (and hopefully to provide some comic relief), here are some definitions: (More can be found at Alastair's homepage - see his signature file for details). "-age": applied seemingly at random to words for effect (e.g. manstyle beer drinkage, tazzage, and of course "Montage") "Age-age": the art of applying 'age', otherwise known as language. "A.L.E.": Alastair and Cameron's Approved List of Edibles - includes Curry, Cheese, Marmite, Beer, Milk, Vodka, Archers, More Beer and Even More Beer. "Beer": doesn't need much explaining to brass bandsmen, surely. Manstyle beer drinkage is known as 'Beverage'. "Big and Good": big top Es on soprano, ludicrous pedals on any instrument of Alastair's choice (excluding Mongolian nose flute), etc. "Cabbage": taking a taxi. "Cooperman": alias James Cooper, the best soprano player in all fifteen known universes. "Manstyle": see 'Big and Good'; generally either HIGH, LOW or FAST. "Stuff": see 'things'. "Tazzage": extremely loud (yet tuneful and controlled) manstyle playing. "Things": see 'stuff'. Well, I hope that explains things. If not, please do remember that I am a ten feet tall Scotsman and Alastair plays the bass trombone. We are not meant to be understood. Cameron Mabon Cornet, duck whistle and triangle, City of Oxford Band, Fundamental Brass -- unsubscribe or receive the list in digest form, mail a message of 'help' to listserver@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
