In reply to an opinion of my original mail about the quality of 'Dykes recording of Montage Jim Britcliffe wrote:- > i suppose we are all entitled to our own opinions, even when they are wrong! > > jim britcliffe > crewe co-op band & avid Black Dyke fan!!!! Which is fine. But, there is still the hard evidence ( the recording itself ) that Black Dyke Play the piece wrong. I am not talking about the interpretation of the piece that may or may not be to everyones taste, I am talking about the wrong rhythms from the Horns and Percussion, The wrong notes that are played in the Solos etc.. A quote from a recent mail from Graham Young on a different topic states:- > James Watson told me > that BDM can learn a piece like Essence of Time in two > rehearsals if necessary and not spend all the rehearsal > time on that piece. It sounds like it after you listen to the CD. Perhaps the quote should have read :- BDM can learn to get to the end of a piece in two rehearsals, it takes them a bit longer to play it correctly though. Thats fine if you want to record a CD and earn a few quid. But if Black Dyke can't be bothered to practice the pieces to reasonable standard then I don't see why the rest of us should be bothered to buy and listen to half hearted attempts of test pieces.
