The band was Hawthorn City in 1982?  The conductor was Sqn Ldr Lauire Hicks
and the principle cornet was the conductor of Y.B.S. David King.   In 1924
The Newcastle Steelworks  Band toured G.B. and were successful in a major
competition at Halifax where they soundly beat Black Dyke Mills  who then
didn't compete in the British open. The Newcastle band then went to London
for the Nationals (off course you Brits wouldn't allow that to happen now
they would have to start in the third section) and I think were placed
third B.D.M. winning on this occasion
