Please forgive an inquiry from one so ignorant of tradition, but I was surprised to learn that such important contests were decided by a single adjudicator. At the North American championships we have three adjudicators whose scores are totaled to determine the final rankings. Another interesting feature of our judging is that the adjudicators all have open microphones and tape recorders in front of them. At the end of the contest you receive tapes that contain your performance along with a running commentary from each judge. We have literally had one judge say "too fast", one "too slow" and one "just right" at the same poco accell. section. It does seem that multiple adjudicators would give a fairer result. Was this tried and rejected in the U.K?
