Surely, a committee (at least partially) composed of > people with vested interests such as these cannot consider our > appeal impartially? > > Cameron Mabon > 2nd cornet, City of Oxford Band Cameron, Firstly, let me introduce myself. I am one of your "mean spirited", "spiteful" Oxford & District Association (ODBBA) representatives on the London & Southern Counties Regional Committee (L&SCRC). You will note I represent ODBBA, not my own band, which is indeed Morrells Concert Brass (Kidlington). I do not intend to comment on the disqualification of City of Oxford Band. That is a matter for your band committee, ODBBA and L&SCRC to sort out. I must, however, comment on your personal attack on myself, the other ODBBA representative and another member of the L&SCRC. You may be surprised to learn that all members of the L&SCRC are associated with one band or another. You note I say "associated", they don't represent them on the committee. If you think about it the contest is hardly likely to be run by people with no connection with the band movement. The committee comprises four officers (Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and Property Master) and two representatives from each of the associations which make up the L&SC region. The association rep's function is to present the agreed position of their own association. None of the committee represents any particular band on the committee and I'm sure all would be as offended as I am if they were accused of any such bias. I am particularly surprised that you have entered into a personal attack against your own association's representatives on the regional committee when I assume you will be relying on them to support your appeal at the next meeting. I can only assume that the views you express are your own and not those of your organisation. Finally, I should remind you (as Andy Wooler has done in the past) that the laws of libel apply to e-mail. Good luck in your appeal.
