That is not in question. We know that we made a mistake. We know who is 
to blame. However, what we would question is that such a trivial mistake 
should be punished so severely. 

I am led to believe that consideration has been given to disposing of 
signature forms at (some or all?) contests in future. I know that 
signature forms are not used at SCABA contests (as I believe Andy said 
in his recent post on this subject) With this in 
mind, I think it would be unfair to impose disqualification upon us for 
making an honest (and, to me, inconsequential) mistake

However, you are entitled to your opinion and I am sure there may be some 
others who share it. Having said that, the vast majority of personal 
emails that I have received over the last 24 hours have made it clear 
that it would be very pernickety to disqualify us. 

The rules stop people from cheating, you write. That may be true of other 
rules, but I can't see how, in our case, complying with the rule could 
have made our performance any more legal. Whether or not the player in 
question signed his name on the form or not does not change the fact that 
he is still a registered member of the band, and has been a regular 
player for years.
