Thanks for the replies, though I am now confused as to whether or not a
French Horn can play in a Brass Band. My daughter has always played in a
Wind Band and I would not like to be off topic.

I have found the advice offered by Bill Ramage and Louise informative and
the site at
http://www.btinternet.com/~l.a.jackson
was well worth a visit, though even second hand horns are pretty steep in
price.

At the moment the best bet appears to be an Eb tenor horn, though I will
take a look at trumpets and keep an eye on Louise' web site for bargains.
